Building envelope inefficiencies have a broad impact, due to the fact that the absorption and thermalization of solar energy by building infrastructure contributes to the urban heat island effect (UHIE). It is estimated that 5–10% of all summer electricity is used to compensate for the UHIE. Applying Cypris Materials heat-reflective coating could be tremendous for consumers and the environment by reducing summer energy use.
